Hello, everyone! It’s time for an update on the project!

Pledge Manager + Charge Date

89% of you have completed your pledge manager surveys. These surveys will allow you to choose the exact designs and items for your pledge, add on additional items, enter in your shipping address, and pay for your shipping charges. If you have not completed your survey, please fill out your survey soon. If you do not complete your survey, I will not know what designs you ordered, where to ship them, and will be unable to fullfill your pledge.

Surveys will be closing on November 30, at which point credit cards will be charged for anyone who added on items or shipping via the pledge manager.

Making all the Things:

In Production:
  • The pin designs and files have been sent to the manufacturer, and are currently under production. The first payment to start production has been sent. Thanks to everyone’s enthusiasm for this project, I will be able to order much larger print runs than initially expected, helping to bring the cost per unit down and ensuring I should have plenty of extra stock for the future. I hope to have production photos to share soon!
  • The backing cards for the pins have been ordered, fully paid for, and are currently in production. The Isopod Leaf, Mini Pins, Jewelry, and Stitch markers will all have two-sided Strange Little Creatures backing cards with raised gold text and logos. The Star Candy Isopods pin designs will have custom star-candy themed backing cards to keep with the theming of the blind bags.

Thank You for a Successful Project!

A big “thank you” to everyone who was able to participate in this campaign. Isopod Colony was more successful than I could have hoped, not only meeting its target funding goal and clearing the two planned stretch goals, but funding additional new mini pin, sticker, and charm designs!


What Happens Now?

  • Pledge Collection (90% complete): Backerkit should have started the process of charging everyone’s payment methods. During this stage, it’s expected that a handful of payments will bounce or be unable to go through. If you receive an e-mail or notification that your pledge was unable to be processed, please make sure to follow up so that Backerkit can attempt to collect your pledge from a valid payment methods. 

  • Addon Designs Finalized (45% complete): The final stretch goal of the campaign was for a set of hard enamel isopod charms that will be used for smaller necklace, earring, and stitch markers addons in the pledge manager. In addition, existing artwork is being formatted for sticky notes, washi tape, and lanyards. These designs will be shown in a campaign update at the end of the week, and in the pledge manager.

  • Pledge Manager Setup & Test Run (70% complete): I am currently in the process of waiting for backers data to import into the pledge manager and am setting up the additional items we unlocked. The pledge manager was originally scheduled to launch on September 10th, the day after the campaign ends. I am moving the pledge manager launch to Saturday, September 13th so that there is a bit more time to test and get those additional items ready! The pledge manager closure is also being extended by 3 additional days, to September 27th.

Final Countdown - New Mini Pins, Pledge Levels, Charms!

Hello Isopod enthusiasts! We're in the final stretch of the Isopod Colony campaign! As a reminder, this campaign will end on September 9th at 3PM EST, 12pm PST.

New Mini Pins

The Orange Clown, Sakura, Pineapple, and Crystal Spiky mini pins are now available.

Final Stretch Goal

The final stretch goal has been reached. This stretch goal is to manufacture hard enamel mini charms. These charms will be the same shape and share the same mold, but will come in 5 color variants for Rubber Ducky, Dairy Cow, Zebra, Cappuccino, and Orange Dragon isopods. The design for this charm is still a work-in-progress, but it will be a symmetrical top-down view of an isopod with a hole for jewelry hardware.


When the pledge manager goes live after the campaign concludes, I will be offering the following addons featuring these charms:

  • Smaller Earring Pairs with fishhook findings. These will be lighter than the larger asymmetrical Isopod leaf earrings, and will cost $2 less than their larger counterparts.
  • Smaller Necklace with 20" adjustable Venetian box chain necklace. This necklace will have a chain that is 2" smaller (adjustable to 16", 18" or 20") than the Isopod leaf pendants, and will cost $2 less than its larger counterparts.
  • Set of 5 stitch markers - Many fiber artists enjoy having cute stitch markers! A set of 5 stitch markers with lobster clasps will be a fun addon.

Pledge levels for those who want mostly mini pins are now available. You can pledge for 1, 5, or 10 mini pins of your choice. The 5 mini pin pledge level comes with a $1 discount on addons, and the 10 mini pin pledge level comes with a $2 discount on addons.

Hello everyone! Today several stretch goals have been unlocked, and we have some new designs to look over. The designs for the $4,900 and $5,500 stretch goals are coming soon. Thank you so much for your support for this project!

Mini Pins

Thanks to your amazing support, Eight new mini pin designs have been unlocked. Mini pins range in size from 0.75"-1" on their longest side. Because they are smaller, they are considered a different category and cost a bit less than the larger enamel pins. If you would like to have some little beans to add to your bags or pin boards, you can add them to your pledge via the Addons feature! We have unlocked Magic Potion, Zebra, Lemon Blue, Panda King, Lava, Pink Lambo, Sakura***, and Orange Clown*** mini pins, and are very close to unlocking Pineapple*** and Crystal Pinapple***.

Jewelry Samples

Jewelry Samples:

As mentioned in the campaign, I self-funded a small sample run of the isopod leaf pins and jewelry to gain experience with producing pins before committing to a Backerkit campaign. Here are photos of the finished samples of the pendants and earrings, assembled with the stainless steel jewelry findings!

Stretch Goal Update:

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the stretch goal poll! I am still getting designs together and confirming some final details with my manufacturing partners, but will have several goals posted this weekend. Goals that have already been met will be retroactively unlocked. IE: The 2.5K sticker goal, 3K mini pin goal, 4K mini pin goal, will not need to be reached with new numbers, as we already have sufficient funding to produce them thanks to your enthusiasm and generous support!
